Grind It Out.

I know it's not the most fun part of doing any project but it has to be done. Spending a solid day doing nothing but research for this new project has been long but it has given me some more inspiration for my greetings cards and I now have a substantial idea that I want to take forward to the next stage.

But I wont tell you yet!

PAL begins!!

The eagerly anticipated FIRST PAL session has been and gone, and what fun we all had. It all kicked off with a little introduction by Vicky, Luke and I about what PAL was about and what the first years would like to gain from it. Then the magic happened!

After some vigorous preperation we got the mother of all ice breakers out..

Pass the Parcel. With 17 layers, each with a question and a treat underneath, and the star prize in the box, the first years didn't know what hit them!

The first years were a bit quiet at first but with a little encouragement from us three, they were all laughing, having fun and getting to know one another. We made sure there were no awkward questions or requests under each layer so they didn't take it too seriously and have fun, which is what we wanted our first PAL session to be about. If they can feel relaxed and at ease around us then we can get the most them and they can get the most out of us.

All in all, the session was a success. We have learnt pretty much everyone's name and I'm sure they learnt some new things about each other. Hopefully this can be the start of a good PAL group.

Greetings Card Ideas...

After racking my brains for ages today I think I've finally found the basis of my overall design. This book, which I have just bought, is based around optical illusions.

Vis Com iii, Illustrative Based

This Visual Communication poster is purely based on the illustrative studies involved in the course. As you can see the theme still applies to this piece, three iii's representing the third year but in a sketchy, rough design, as if it has just come out of a visual communication students sketchbook.

Here I basically used an artists brush stroke from the stroke palette in illustrator. Simple!

Vis Com iii, Screen Based

This Visual Communication has the same underlying principles of the first but its main focus is on our screen based studies. its basically three 'I's still but they are now in RGB colours, not CMYK. I thought the best way to show this fact was to make a spectrum of colour by merging them together. Obviously, when all three are combined they create white. 

The way I have shown this is by altering the transparency of each 'i' so they blend when overlapped, but, in the places they merge, I have changed their colour combination as if it were on screen.

SO... when the red and green 'i's merge, they create yellow,

when the green and blue 'i's merge, they create turquoise and

when the three combine, they produce white!
