Vis Com iii, Screen Based

This Visual Communication has the same underlying principles of the first but its main focus is on our screen based studies. its basically three 'I's still but they are now in RGB colours, not CMYK. I thought the best way to show this fact was to make a spectrum of colour by merging them together. Obviously, when all three are combined they create white.
The way I have shown this is by altering the transparency of each 'i' so they blend when overlapped, but, in the places they merge, I have changed their colour combination as if it were on screen.
SO... when the red and green 'i's merge, they create yellow,
when the green and blue 'i's merge, they create turquoise and
when the three combine, they produce white!

Vis Com iii, print-based.

This poster is for the print-based design work we do in Visual Communication. I have taken the concept of 3 in roman numerals is 'III' but also used the basic printing process colours used for print-based design. The black dot representing K (black in CMYK) includes the letters 'rd' so now instead of reading '3', it should now read '3rd' (third).

Vis Com 3rd year.

After a wave of inspiration from pentagram partners, various posters and computer game advertisements, settling on one idea was tricky. So I figured maybe basing it on specific logo that could be spread across the whole of Vis Com. I've drawn my main inspiration from a set of adverts for the game 'Grand Theft Auto IV';
Their basic use of the roman numerals IV, meaning 4 (the sequel number) were enough to advertise GTA without using their name.
This made me think if I were just to use 'III' for the third year of Vis Com but add a spin onto the design of it, could it work?

It's Tricky!

Trying to come up with some good ideas has been a bit challenging so far. Because this is something thats important to me and I believe in it so much has possibly put me off playing around with the ideas I have thought of. I'd like to produce something not only i am fond of but Sally, Neil and Kit and even the whole class are fond of too because if they are then it could go towards our campaign for the third year and even want people to join.

At the moment I'm leaning towards some sort of word war two propaganda-style poster with and interesting twist to get people thinking, possibly in block colour or vector graphics. Other ideas I may explore though are;
popart/Warhol style but for what reason I'm not sure.
20's style New York Advertising
or even including my fellow students from Vis Com.
My main aim though, is to symbolise or explain what Visual Communication is all about whilst making the onlooker 'look again' and 'think again'.

I am PAL!

I am now officially a PAL leader. After successfully completing my training with Kit, I am ready to take on the first years. I really enjoyed the two sessions on Monday and today, it was fun interesting and I feel like I have learnt a lot about myself and what it will take to be a PAL leader.

I'm in a group of three with Luke and Vicky which I'm very happy about because I get on with them well and we really worked well together as a group in the PAL training sessions, so much so that Kit practically forced us to be together after watching us in our mock PAL session on Monday. She liked the way we interacted with the class and also believed we came up with a good lesson plan that got everyone in the class doing something.

These sessions have really boosted my confidence and I reckon us three as a group will be able to entertain, help and interact with the first years with ease.

It's been so long.

Its been a while I know but it's not my fault! I haven't got internet at home because the people who lived there before us haven't cancelled their contract!! Very annoying.

Sorry!

First Project! Let the 'Geeking' begin

Look Again / Think Again

For the first part of our new unit, Visual Communication in Context 2, we have to produce an A3 poster with one of the two required outcomes;
  • a social issue that in your opinion has been over looked and needs addressing,
  OR
  • an object which carries values that go beyond its intended purpose or everyday use.

After producing several ideas for both I have whittled them down two two in each category. For the social issue option, my two favourite's are;
a Vis Com third year and
fuel prices.
In the personal meaning option, the two that really appealed to me were;
a pack of playing cards and
a Ribena carton.

Personally I think doing the third year Vis Com poster would be great because if it's good enough it could go towards the actual application for the third year to show the classes commitment to Visual Communication as a whole and, personally, it is something I believe in.
I could potentially use this factor in the overall design, possibly by including people who support it also or conveying what Visual Communication is all about.
